Cover plate dies are popping up more and more in my Instagram Stories. I love using them because they create an amazing focal point with little effort. I was so inspired by some cards that Erica made, I had to buy and try out the Falling Circles die by Neat and Tangled. Unfortunately, it has been retired but no worries, I featured many different cover plate dies and I even have some alternatives to the Falling Circles die.
Layering & Faux Layering Technique

I showed off the layering and faux layering technique with some Birch Press Design Dies. I used the Epiphany Layer Set ( ELH | SSS | BRC ) and Lumina Layer Dies ( ELH | SSS | BRC ) to create these two looks. One card uses three different dies whereas the other features the same die cut out three times. I embellished with the The Stamp Market Handwritten Thanks Dies( THS | SBC | ELH | SSS ) and the Birch Press Design BIG FRIEND SUGAR SCRIPT Craft Dies ( SSS ).
In-Lay Die Cutting

The amazing die (retired) can be easily replaced using the Lawn Fawn Snowfall Backdrop Die or the Throwing Confetti Die if you want a similar look but let's focus on the beautiful golds used on this card. I ADORE cardstock by Tonic Studios. For this card I used Honey Gold Cardstock ( TNC | SBC | SSS ), Harvest Gold Cardstock ( TNC | SBC | SSS ) Gold Dust Glitter Cardstock ( TNC ), Harvest Gold and Black cardstock. The combination of different golds is so elegant.
Double Sided Adhesive is your BFF!
I could not have kept my sanity during In Lay technique if I didn't have my 4 inch Scrapbook.com Double Sided Adhesive. It's a perfect size for card panels, it tears, cuts easily and is super strong! See how I use it in the video!

Mixing In Lay and Layered Look

I used the Altenew Layered Blossom Cover Die A & B Bundle( ALTN ) to create these cards. For the first two cards I used the in-lay technique whereas for the third card I used the layering technique using a black backdrop. The Turquoise Sea cardstock provides a nice pop of colour and the Duck Egg Cardstock( TNC | SSS ) really adds some texture.
Multi-Coloured Inlays 3-for-1 Cards!

This technique is a lot of fun and involves mixing and matching cardstock. I used black, purple mist, gold dust, silver chrome, and navy cardstock to create these cards. Using Press n Seal ( AMZUS | SSS ) allowed me to create these cards with ease as it holds in all the pieces. Thanks Jennifer McGuire for the amazing tip!
Alternative Examples

Next up I create a bold front using the Honey Gold cardstock and a faux layering look. The die I used is the Cuddles and Hugs Dies by Concord & 9th. I love that it cuts the shadow and the script sentiment.
Ode to Tonic Mirror Cardstock

One of my favourite cardstock from the Tonic Studios Mirror line is the Holo Waves cardstock. It is holographic which means when in certain light angles, it changes colour.
De-bossed Cover Plate

There aren't too many of these in the market but when I am looking for a subtle background, I cannot go wrong. This cover plate actually pierces a pattern directly into the cardstock. It doesn't pierce all the way which is why it is considered debasing. The Altenew Dotted Swirls Debossing Cover Die ( ALTN | SBC | ELH | SSS ) is so stunning!

Wow! SO many stunning examples for using die cuts either inlaid or on top of your card! Such a shame your falling circles has been discontinued! Thanks so much for sharing your great video and all the helpful tips!
