Wide Washi Tape Custom Shaker Cards

Today I'm exploring Number 10 cards (4″ x 9.25″) and how to create custom cards for birthdays with Wide Washi tape from Altenew. I love shaker cards and I've been making tons of these lately. I decided to use my favourite washi tapes: Teal Shadow, Painted Fantasy, Glitter Flurries, Monochrome and Misty Meadows.

A Note on Alphabet Dies

Using alphabet dies (regardless of size) makes these kinds of cards possible. I used a variety of them and showed you the size on my glass mat in order to help you figure out which alphabet dies work best to you if you consider investing. I think my favourite are the Skinny Alphabet dies from Stamp Market since you are pretty much guaranteed to fit all names. The font I love the most is the Bold Alphabet Dies from Altenew.

Custom Shaker Card Video Tutorial

This is definitely a must watch video as I have tons of ideas on how to line up alphabet dies to ensure they are straight, plenty of tips on how to create shaker cards and storage for all those sequins you may have collected over the year.

Sequin Storage

Sequins and Jewels are a huge part of shaker cards. In the card examples I used today, I really tried to use a variety of colours and types of shaker bits. I organize all of my jewels and sequins using this Darice Elizabeth Ward 82 Piece Bead Storage. I own two of these (one for sequins and one for things that make noise when they shake).

Card Examples

For this card, I used the Altenew Painted Fantasy Washi Tape ( ALTN | SSS ) as the background and the Bold Alphabet Die Set ( ALTN | SBC | ELH | SSS ) to write the name Sandra on it. I love the way this turned out! It is important to choose sequins that pull in the colours from the washi tape or use some naturals like gold white.

For this particular card, I used the Misty Meadows Washi Tape ( ALTN | SSS ) and I decided to place some green cardstock behind the name JEN so that it really popped and tied in all the washi tape colours. I used olive and gold sequins. These Individual Mega Alphabet Dies ( ALTN | SBC | SSS ) are available as a bundle or individual letters.

This time, I used Glitter Flurries Washi Tape ( ALTN ) and Caps Bold Alphabet Die Set ( ALTN | SBC | ELH | SSS ) to complete this card. As you can see, I used the letters from the die cuts in order to decorate the envelope. I particularly like to do this when I am giving the card in person and no mailing address is needed.

The Teal Shadow Washi Tape ( ALTN | SSS ) and Skinny Alphabet Dies ( SBC | ELH | SSS ) are some of my favourite products in my craftroom right now. The Skinny Alphabet is the set I recommend most since you can fit most names onto cards since the letters are not wide.

The Monochrome Washi Tape ( ALTN | SSS ) and Altenew Mega Alphabet Ultimate Die Bundle( ALTN ) are a perfect combination for more masculine cards despite the fact that they are floral. I made this for my dad's birthday this year and he thought it was pretty cool.
