My Pet Peeve: Stocking Up on the Basics

This is somewhat of an unusual post for me since I usually post tutorials and stamping techniques, but I wanted to write about one of my biggest pet peeves: stocking up on basic items. All the fun new stuff that comes out each month is so tempting and when I have to spend my monthly budget on white paper and glue – talk about blah! I always look for a good sale.

I had to get a few new inks. When I design for certain companies, I generally like to keep things the same brand, so I got some new, pretty Simon Says Stamp inks. I also recently purged my full size Distress Ink pads to free up some space and I was missing just a few minis to make a complete set.

So last Mother's Day Weekend, Simon Says Stamp had a great sale – spend $100 and saved $20 and that's when I knew that I had to invest in a basic tool I have been avoiding forever!!! The Teflon Bone Folder. It's not cheap considering it is a piece of plastic but my bone folder (and most do) leaves a shine on my cardstock when I reinforce my cardstock. Finally I can say, I own one and I'm excited!

My cutting plates for my Big Shot are in pretty rough shape, I got one plate at Creativation which has got me through the last couple months but it's time for a new one. Since the glittery ones aren't any more expensive than the regular ones, why go boring?! On top of plates, some of the standard supplies like refill cardstock and Tombow adhesive are in order.

I couldn't resist a couple of new items though and I am IN LOVE with Little Things from Lucy's Cards Sequins these days so I got a few new packs to add to my shaker bits collection! How gorges are these colours in Apricot, Lilac and Pale Pistachio!?

Lastly, who can resist anything butterflies? It's my thing, I can't help it – I just love them. In really life, they scare the crap out of me so I think I'll just stick to them on cards. This detailed, gorgeous stencil from Stencil Girl is next up for me to play with! I can't wait to get some glitter paste or mousse on this baby!
Is there any pet peeve you have when buying supplies (other than maybe waiting for them)? Anything you just hate spending money on? I hope you enjoyed this little post. Maybe I'll do another one in a while 🙂 A BIG THANKS to Simon Says Stamp for getting this to me so quickly!
