I'm not going to lie, gilding flakes have been sitting in my drawer for months (or years?!) and I have never used them. In fact, I even purged them once and vowed never to buy them again. But, I caved and wanted to try something new so here I am showing off a few gilding flakes techniques I figured out after playing with gilding flakes. I didn't do much research beforehand, I just opened the jar and played.
I was able to create a few different cards using the Nuvo – Gilding Flakes – Radiant Gold ( SBC | TNC | ELH | SSS ) Sunkissed Copper( SBC | TNC | ELH | SSS ) and Silver Bullion Flakes ( SBC | TNC | ELH | SSS ).
Despite being a tad messy, I really had a blast playing with these gilding flakes. I always find it fun to sit down and just experiment with different mediums.
I was able to create some DIY textured shiny cardstock (for a low price at that!) and created these two cards with one sheet of gilding flakes paper using the Birch Press Hugs Topper Die( SSS ).

I mixed together all three colours to make some really interesting, textured looks!
And lastly, I wanted to show the difference between heat embossing with powder and gilding flakes. You get the same shiny gold appearance but the texture is not comparable. I don't think the gilding flakes could ever give you the details that the heat embossing does. However, the heat embossing couldn't give you the texture that flakes do.
Adhering Gilded Flakes
You need some sort of sticky or tacky adhesive. Double sided tape works really well but any sort of glue that dries tacky will work as well.

I liked your inventiveness with these. In the UK, these are sold in a starter kit which includes a little rough pad for burnishing. I would never have thought of stencilling – I’m going to give it a go!
